The Mother's Act Again?

by Robert L. Gisel

The Melanie Blocker Stokes Mother's Act has again come before Congress in an attempt to legalize life threatening practices. Many articles cover the dangerous ramifications of the proposed Bill. To quote from one of the articles at http://mothersact.wordpress.com/

"The Melanie Blocker Stokes MOTHERS Act is a federal bill named after Melanie Stokes, a woman who suffered emotional difficulties after giving birth and was subsequently prescribed a cocktail of intensely controversial psychiatric drugs including anti-psychotic, anti-anxiety, and anti-depressant drugs before being subjected to electroshock treatment.

Melanie Stokes was in the mental health system, was prescribed drugs, was hospitalized, was subjected to the still barbaric practice of electroshock and only after receiving mental health “treatment” did she commit suicide. That is what the mental health industry did for a new mother named Melanie Stokes."

That this is not good for mothers is plainly evident, but the vested interests the trillion dollar drug and psychiatric industries, do not have the mothers best interests in mind. One can only assume this and that they know what they are doing as the side effects are known and well publicized. The psychiatric drugs inevitably prescribed have been documented by the FDA as the cause of birth defects, psychosis, mania, worsening depression, suicidal and homicidal ideation.

Do you need a more vivid picture? Ritalin and Prosaic have been attributed to causing school shootings and other homicides and suicides. The drug companies then change the name by producing derivative drugs, having basically the same deadly side effects. Many of these drugs are black box labeled by the FDA. Yet the FDA continues to approve more and more derivatives that flood the market to replace the stigmatized drugs, sidestep the bad press and black box labeling.

The mother in the video at the link above was prescribed Zyprexa, in addition to the already excessive prescriptions. Elly Lilly very recently was charged a $1.42 billion civil and criminal settlement for their production and distribution of Zyprexa. Yet this is only one of the epidemic 76 psychiatric drugs now on the market and $1.42 billion is merely pocket change for the trillion dollar industry.

The confront of evil is sometimes not easy. The grim determination of psychiatry and the drug companies to put every man woman and child they possibly can on these drugs is too obvious. It only propagates if we let it.

The Mothers Act was defeated the last time it was introduced. Now it has been introduced again (HR 20, January 6th and S 326, Jan 26th) and again must be defeated. One can expect this may be attached to the stimulus bill as a subterfuge in sneaking the bill through. No rational person in his right mind and full cognizance of the ramifications would support this bill.

Call or write your Congressmen. Let this be known to your friends to get their support. Saving action on this scurrilous legislation may some day save the life of someone you love.
